Last month, we asked you to report sightings of flame flower in Georgia’s Coastal Plain region.
But DNR and the Georgia Plant Conservation Alliance are also interested in GPS locations and clear images of the following species:
- Particularly in the Okefenokee Swamp, report tawny cottongrass (Eriophorum virginicum). Tip: From summer to fall, look for fluffy cottonball flowers growing on plants 1- to 4-feet tall in the Okefenokee (as well as in wet meadows on Fall Line sandhills).
- And in Morgan County, do the same for Porter’s goldenrod (Solidago porteri). Keep an eye out for this plant’s bright yellow flowers and fuzzy leaves along the edges of woodland habitats from August into October.
For either, please email the details and photos to gabiodata@dnr.ga.gov.
And as always, your help in providing information on these rare plants is appreciated!
Note: DNR promotes ethical monitoring of rare plants with landowner permission. Please botanize responsibly.
