Walleye are native to north Georgia and actively stocked by the Wildlife Resources Division in reservoirs across the northern tier of the state. This 4.5 pound walleye was hoisted from the depths of Carters Lake last week by 6-year-old Haley Bartenfield of Chatsworth, Ga. Haley and her dad also landed several nice spotted bass along with this walleye during their father-daughter outing.
Given the relatively cool summer temperatures, look for walleye to be shallower than normal for this time of year. They’re likely to be found at depths ranging from 15-25 feet on main lake rocky points. Live offerings of shad fished just off the bottom may entice strikes from these “toothy” predators. Why isn’t she wearing a PFD? Thought they were mandatory for anyone her age.

The PFD law requires all children under 13 to wear a life-jacket while on board a moving vessel. If the vessel is anchored and not moving, the PFD is not required by law. Although, we agree that wearing a life-jacket is a good idea at all times on the water (and not just for children)!
