Haley Bartenfield of Chatsworth, Ga., shows off this nice 4.5 pound walleye caught at Carters Lake.

Walleye are native to north Georgia and actively stocked by the Wildlife Resources Division in reservoirs across the northern tier of the state.  This 4.5 pound walleye was hoisted from the depths of Carters Lake last week by 6-year-old Haley Bartenfield of Chatsworth, Ga.  Haley and her dad also landed several nice spotted bass along with this walleye during their father-daughter outing.

Given the relatively cool summer temperatures, look for walleye to be shallower than normal for this time of year. They’re likely to be found at depths ranging from 15-25 feet on main lake rocky points.  Live offerings of shad fished just off the bottom may entice strikes from these “toothy” predators.  Purchase your fishing license and Go Fish Georgia!
